Testing the Fuji XF 23mm 1.4

OK, this is the lens I was craving for… and today I took it to school.

Compared to other Fuji primes, this lens is a bit on the heavy side, but coupled with the Fuji X-T2 it eels like you are carrying a weapon, not because of its weight, but due to the firmness of its grip, its balance and its looks. I think it goes well with my big hands.

Often people complain the lens is slow. Not to me, it is fast focusing and images are gorgeous. Today was a cloudy day, with not exactly good quality of light, but still like any other time, it was an opportunity to practice, to test the ergonomics, and compare the results. Usually I don't go out much with the X-T2, restricting it much to landscapes and sports, but man I loved that flippy screen, and used very frequently for candid shots. And since this lens wide opens to 1.4, I couldn't stop playing with the aperture, so much fun.

But honestly, while working the streets, I kept coming back to my time with the XF 18mm f2 lens, and how it renders beautiful images, and how well it saturates the pictures. Perhaps with better light, I would be able to see comparable results with 23mm lens. I shall keep playing with it some more.
